While 72% of our scientists have been busy making weapons of mass destruction... some of the few that aren't managed to find time, resources and most importantly, the desire to further mankind's exploration of space.

So encouraging to see private enterprise picking up the slack and moving mankind forward. I just love this company and it's vision.

Elon Musk, you are what this country needs more of... Let it not be said Elon Musk doesn't know how to grab people's attention. The SpaceX founder captured much of the Southwest portion of the country's attention Friday night when his company launched its Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, California. The rocket was carrying 10 low-orbit satellites from Iridium Communications. The launch went exactly as planned.

SpaceX's achievements include the first privately funded liquid-propellant rocket to reach orbit (Falcon 1 in 2008); the first privately funded company to successfully launch, orbit, and recover a spacecraft (Dragon in 2010); the first private company to send a spacecraft to the International Space Station (Dragon in 2012); the first propulsive landing for an orbital rocket (Falcon 9 in 2015); and the first reuse of an orbital rocket (Falcon 9 in 2017).

As of March 2017, SpaceX has since flown ten missions to the International Space Station (ISS) under a cargo resupply contract. NASA also awarded SpaceX a further development contract in 2011 to develop and demonstrate a human-rated Dragon, which would be used to transport astronauts to the ISS and return them safely to Earth.
